One of the best ways to travel around Europe is by rail. The train networks connecting the many cities and countries offer passengers a quick and comfortable transit.
A traveler can choose from pleasant local trains to high-speed TGVs that can zoom at speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph).
European train stations have central locations with trips departing frequently. The cars are well-maintained providing a comfortable ride. Typically trains offer dining cars, and buffet carts which serve drinks and snacks to travelers.
Many European countries have railway networks which operate using different electric systems such as AC or DC and with volts ranging from 750 to 25,000. This can hinder cross-border traffic with different countries running on different railway systems, but passengers are hopeful for change. The European Union is working to introduce competition to national rail networks as well as to make cross-border operations easier.
Rail networks in Western and Central Europe are often well maintained and well developed. They are a great way to visit Europe.
